Edwin van der Sar - A fitting finale to a marvellous career, the unflappable Dutchman was largely flawless throughout the campaign. Assured and ageless, there was no depreciation in his talents and some will argue he was better than ever.
Rafael - Tries to win every ball with his speed and aggression and has all the ingredients to become the best right-back in the division. Likes to join up with the attack and is gaining in experience and confidence all the time.
Fabio - Although he may have been behind his twin in his development, largely due to injuries, he earned the trust of the manager towards the end of the season. A dynamic, tenacious figure who looks at home in a variety of positions.
Patrice Evra - Steady and reliable as he remains a permanent fixture in the left-back slot. A constant attacking source of inspiration with his raids down the flank, he links superbly with his colleagues.
John O’Shea - It’s little wonder he’s one of the manager’s favourites because of his versatility and character. Able to slot in and deliver reliable performances with the added benefit of his height at set-pieces and status of being a senior professional.
Rio Ferdinand - Purrs his way through games with seemingly effortless ease and is a class act at the back. Dominant in the air and composed on the ground, he ended any doubts over his nagging injuries with a series of top-class displays.
Chris Smalling - Seems to be learning the Old Trafford way fast and can be delighted with his debut campaign at the club. Looked completely unfazed as he proved an able deputy for his higher-profile colleagues.
Nemanja Vidic - A commanding presence at the heart of the defence and a worthy captain. Always one to lead by example, he played with the consistency and excellence that comes with being truly settled into his role.
Jonny Evans - By his own admission, his form slipped but he bounced back to prove he is a capable understudy for Vidic. Showed his versatility by performing impressively at left-back in the second half of the win against Chelsea.
Michael Carrick - It took some time to discover his best form but it was timed to perfection as the midfield pivot became one of the first names on the team-sheet. An effective shield in front of the back four and quality passer, he has been an exceptional signing.
Darron Gibson - Does not look out of place in midfield and has become a useful option for the boss. Clearly has great vision and the trademark cannonball-shot.
Darren Fletcher - A bundle of energy and important member of the team before an illness interrupted his campaign. Started getting forward a little more and is growing in stature in the middle of the park with his passing and tackling.
Ryan Giggs - Still defying his age to produce arguably some of his best football ever. Utilised carefully by the manager, he brings a refined air to the team with his presence. His smooth, incisive passing, jinking wing-play and trademark sliding tackles are features of his play.
Anderson - Showed why he is so highly regarded by the manager with some high-octane displays, particularly in the second half of the season. After signing a new contract in December, big things are expected of the Brazilian, who adds real drive to the midfield.
Paul Scholes - Started the season in vintage form and bagged his only goal with a classic rocket at Fulham. Still generates awe with his range of passing and remains able to dictate matches at Premier League level. It will be a shame if it is his last season as he has so much to offer.
Ji-sung Park - Goalscoring contributions against Wolves and Arsenal simply cannot be under-estimated but there is so much more to the Korean’s game. For attitude and work ethic, there is probably nobody better as this team player reaches new heights in earning the affections of everybody at Old Trafford
Antonio Valencia - A sickening ankle injury sustained against Rangers looked set to end his season in September. Instead, the Ecuadorian powerhouse returned better than ever, instantly scorching down the right flank like he had never been away. His freshness and quality was a major boost in the title run-in.
Nani - United’s inspiration for much of the season and the man expected to conjure up a piece of magic out of nothing. A flood of goals and assists provided evidence of his impact in his best-ever season in a red shirt but the horror tackle from Jamie Carragher slowed his progress.
Wayne Rooney - From the moment he headed home at West Brom, the Rooney of old returned as his sheer talent came to the fore again. Forging a wonderful partnership with Javier Hernandez, his revitalised form is a testament to the player and Sir Alex’s unrivalled man-management skills. Stepped up to convert the crucial penalty at Ewood Park.
Dimitar Berbatov - To finish top scorer in the Premier League, as he surely will, is something for the Bulgarian to be eternally proud of. A hat-trick against Liverpool rewrote the history books but he bettered this with five in the remarkable rout of Blackburn. Even when losing a regular starting spot, he contributed at key moments including the winner against Bolton.
Javier Hernandez - Quite simply a stunning debut season. The Mexican’s insatiable thirst for goals made him impossible to leave out and, whatever the occasion, he was never overawed. With pace and movement rarely seen in modern strikers, he stretched defences and proved incredibly reliable when presented with chances.
Michael Owen - The perfect squad member who always looked lively when afforded an opportunity. The striker has developed his game and is happy coming deep to link the play but retains his goal threat inside the area.
Wes Brown and Gary Neville filled in at the back when required while Tomasz Kuszczak has deputised for Van der Sar on five occasions. Federico Macheda's highlight was a stunning strike at Aston Villa and Gabriel Obertan provided some speed on the flanks.
