Edwin van der Sar - 7.5

Was called into action on a number of occasions and pulled off a couple of outstanding saves, most notably from a stinging shot by Didier Drogba.

John O'Shea - 7

Stuck to his task manfully all night long, and curtailed the influence of both Florent Malouda and Ashley Cole.

Rio Ferdinand - 8

Showed how much United have missed him this season with an assured performance at the back. Intercepted through-balls with ease and never panicked under pressure.

Nemanja Vidic - 8.5

Another rock-solid performance from the United skipper. Dealt with high balls all night long, and kept Fernando Torres to a whisper in the first half.

Patrice Evra - 7

Not one of his more outstanding games but the French left-back constantly supported the attack with his bombarding runs down the flank. Was however culpable for Chelsea's goal when he was turned too easily by Didier Drogba.

Nani (off 75') - 8

Proved a handful for the Chelsea defence all night. His pace and trickery created numerous opportunities for his side, and he found himself on the end of a few nasty challenges.

Michael Carrick - 8

Backed up his superb performance in the first leg with a less-influential but equally important performance. Instead of trying to carve chances out for United, he left that task to Ryan Giggs and instead focused on shielding his defence, providing timely tackles and interceptions throughout.

Ryan Giggs - 9

Another majestic performance the ageless veteran. His passing was a joy to behold all night long, and twice he cut open the Chelsea defence with passes others can only dream of making. Showed no signs of letting up just yet.

Park Ji-Sung - 8.5

Park once again showed why he is Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice when it comes to the important games. Never stopped running and was rewarded for his efforts when Giggs picked him out with a sublime pass, which he finished with aplomb.

Wayne Rooney - 8.5

May not have troubled the scorers but Rooney is definitely showing signs of getting back to his best. Constantly dropped deep to pick up the ball and was a creative influence throughout. Was not shy to show off his range of passing with a couple of delightful crossfield balls.

Javier Hernandez - 8

Probably the only criticism to an otherwise stellar debut season was his inability to get involved in the team's build-up in attack. Not tonight, however, as he held up the ball well while waiting for his team-mates to run up in support. Seems to have a special ability to make runs that no one can pick up, and once again found himself unmarked at the far post where he had an easy tap-in into an open goal.
